How to successfully apply for an MBA

Make your MBA application stand out

From researching which MBA is right for you, to preparing your application and attending an interview, applying for an MBA is often a long and intensive process.

It’s important to tell us what sets you apart from other candidates. We've put together four steps to help you successfully secure your place in one of our MBA programs.

1. Discover which MBA is the right fit for you

We have designed three very different MBAs to cater to the demands of individuals at different stages of their career.

MBA

°¿³Ü°ùÌýMBA, delivered part-time and in-person at our Sydney CBD campus, has a strong focus on developing the personal and interpersonal skills needed to lead in today’s hyper-connected, global environment. The program is underpinned by our unique approach to learning, which goes beyond the traditional classroom setting and requires students to deliver prototypes and effective solutions to actual business problems.

MBA (Leadership and Enterprise)

°¿³Ü°ùÌýMBA (Leadership and Enterprise) is taught full-time over 18 months and has a precise limit on class size. You will ‘learn by doing’ through workshops with industry leaders, intensive group work, and tackling real-world issues with a diverse cohort of students from around the world.

Executive MBA

°¿³Ü°ùÌýExecutive MBA gives you a range of unique experiences around the world - in different countries and organisations. With a focus on experiential learning, disruption and adaptability, our Executive MBA will give you the opportunity to work with business leaders and global organisations to address dynamic and multifaceted problems.

2. Tell us what sets you apart through your statement of motivation

With applicants who all have unique experiences, we want to know how you stand out from the crowd and gain a deeper understanding of why our MBA is for you.

That’s why we ask all applicants to write a statement of motivation (maximum of two pages). This is your chance to tell us why you are the perfect fit for the program, what sets you apart from other candidates and how you will add value to your fellow cohort.

  • What do you hope to achieve professionally and personally by completing the MBA from the University of Sydney Business School?
  • What are your academic and professional achievements?
  • Are you involved in community and extracurricular activities?
  • What are your leadership qualities?
  • Have you received any awards and recognition?
  • What sets you apart from other candidates around the world?
  • How will you add value to the MBA?

If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please provide details of this in your statement of motivation.

3. Complete an application form

It’s now time to complete an online application. For this, you will need:

  • Your academic qualification details, for example, completion year and grade average.
  • Your employment history/professional details.
  • Your statement of motivation (see above).

4. Prepare for your interview

If your application has been shortlisted, we’ll invite you to attend a selection interview. This is your chance to really shine and clearly explain your motivations to join our MBA, and for us to make sure you are the right fit for the program.

It’s important that you are relaxed, authentic and self-aware throughout the interview. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask us any questions you may have and find out more about how our MBA can help you achieve your goals.Â
