Regional and rural engagement

Unearthing and nurturing musical talent from our regions

Through engagement and collaboration with regional arts organisations, musicians, schools and public, we aim to platform the stories, voices, and musical excellence of rural and regional communities in our national musical landscape.

At the Conservatorium we've created a program dedicated to bridging the gap between city and regional music schools. We work closely with the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums and schools to support music education in our regions and and nurture young musicians.

Regional tours

Supported by the Patricia H. Reid Trust, our ensembles regularly tour western, southern and northern NSW as part of our regional engagement program. Contact con.community@sydney.edu.au for more information about hearing our musicians in your area.

Richard Pulley Outreach and Engagement Program

Established in 2013 by Professor Anna Reid and Professor Jennifer Rowley, this program is dedicated to bridging the gap between city and regional music schools. Our students provide young musicians with support and mentoring, unearthing and encouraging musical talent throughout NSW, while gaining valuable experience in return.

Through the program, students spend up to five days tutoring school students for concerts and festivals through workshops and individual teaching in schools and regional conservatoriums. They also visit small primary schools in remote areas to introduce young students to music and orchestral instruments.
