All University event participants, including speakers, attendees, and organisers, are expected to adhere to the following:

The University values academic freedom and freedom of speech, as outlined in our Charter of Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom. We encourage informed debate and recognise that differing views are a natural part of intellectual discourse. However, we do not tolerate racism, hate speech, harassment, or any behaviour that compromises the safety or dignity of others

All event participants are expected to:

  • Be respectful and work well with others
  • Act professionally in what you say and do
  • Stay safe and drink responsibly
  • Follow the rules set by the University and event venue

By attending University of Sydney events, you contribute to a welcoming and respectful community where diverse voices can be heard safely.

Unacceptable behaviour, including

  • harassment, including sexual harassment
  • discrimination,
  • physical abuse,
  • intimidation, threats,
  • defamatory comments,
  • displaying or sharing inappropriate material, disruptive or anti-social behaviour,
  • consumption or possession of illicit drugs, any unlawful behaviour, and any damage to property

will not be tolerated.

We encourage event attendees to report any unacceptable or unprofessional behaviour to a University of Sydney representative immediately. Confidentiality of the reporting individual will be maintained where it is practical to do so. Reports will be treated seriously and investigated. Appropriate action will follow.

If unacceptable behaviour is observed or reported, the University may take any reasonable measure to maintain a safe and professional environment, including refusing entry or removing individuals from an event, and barring them from future activities.
