It’s that time of year where Sydney lights up, tourists flock and creative installations pop up all over the city. Vivid is also a chance for our design staff, students and alumni to show off their latest stunning projects.
So what should you see at this year's festival? We’ve curated a list of the projects you can’t miss!

Barangaroo

The Liminal Hourtransforms Barangaroo’s Wulugul Walk into a magical bushland every night of the festival led by the beautiful female creature named Marri Dyin – meaning “Great Woman” in the Eora language. James designed the sound for this installation and is a graduate of theMaster of Architectural Science (Audio and Acoustics).

Royal Botanic Gardens

A playground carousel is transformed into a colourful, illuminated ‘wheel of positive energy’. Kristina is a current PhD student, supervised byDr Luke HespanholandDr Lian Loke- who also collaborated on this piece.

Managed by a crazy professor, Liquid Lies is an installation within thein Chatswood Mall. Take a spot at the lab desk in the hope of a delicious drink.Louis is a current PhD student supervised byDr Luke Hespanhol andDr Lian Loke.

The Rocks

A canopy of hanging origami cranes inspired by the Japanese senbazuru legend. The cranes light up as visitors move through the space and change colour when messages of #hope are tweeted. Christopher and Isabella aregraduates of the Bachelor of Design Computing.

An immersive light sculpture that playfully engages visitors by combining architectural, visual, and musical techniques. Liam is Co-program Director for the Bachelor of Design Computing and Gwen teaches inthe Master of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts.

Have a chat with a chair! When you sit down, a sensor will activate and these benches will tell you how they feel.

Five brilliantly coloured kites hang above a small lane near Circular Quay. Made from LED tubes and luminous fabric, the kites activate with a chase of colour and patterns when viewers wave their hands towards them.Martin is agraduate of the Master of Architectural Science (Illumination Design).

Chatswood

Shanty town architecture meets Star Wars in the Light Market at Chatswood! Interactive installations,dazzling lights and delicious food from all over the world. Luke has been running a short research project around digital placemaking for community engagement and several of his Chatswood installations form part of this research.
