Health4Life Parents & Teens

Optimisation of a parent-based intervention to reduce modifiable cancer risk factors among socio-economically disadvantaged adolescents
The 'Health4Life Parents and Teens' program (https://parentsandteens.org.au/) was co-designed by working with parents and adolescents experiencing socio-economic disadvantage in NSW.

Building on the original 'Health4Life' school-based intervention that was trialled with >3000 adolescents (), 'Health4Life Parents and Teens' is a brief and engaging online program for PARENTS of adolescents.

It aims to provide parents with effective, evidence-based parenting strategies to support their teenager to develop healthy long-term habits in the 'Big 6' lifestyle risk factors for chronic disease (nutrition, sedentary screen use, sleep, physical activity, alcohol use, smoking/vaping). In the current phase of our trial, we are seeking 300 parents who have a teenage child (11-15 years old) to trial this free online program.

To be eligible, parents must be living in a socio-economically disadvantaged suburb of NSW and have a teenage child (11-15 years old). Eligible parents will complete 6 brief online modules about effective parenting strategies, one for each of the 'Big 6'. They may also receive supportive health coaching and/or text messages, a session about coping with household stress, and tailored feedback on parenting strategies. Parents who participate will also receive reimbursement. To find out more, watch this 2 minute video () or visit the program website ().
