The Scholarship will support students from the University of Sydney Law School who are participating in a law program including inter alia international mooting, legal internships, legal placement (for credit or co-curricular), exchange offshore programs, etc.

1. Background
a. Established in 2024 from a bequest by Alan Neaves who expressed a wish to promote learning, teaching, research and the general advancement of scholarship in Australian and comparative constitutional law.
b. The Scholarship will support students from the University of Sydney Law School who are participating in a law program including inter alia international mooting, legal internships, legal placement (for credit or co-curricular), exchange offshore programs, etc.
2. Eligibility
a. Applicants must be a full-time or part-time student currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degrees at the University of Sydney Law School.
b. Applicants must be approved by the University of Sydney Law School to undertake a Law program including inter alia international mooting, legal internships, legal placement (for credit or co-curricular), exchange offshore programs, etc.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic merit, and
II. financial hardship.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of the Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Law School, or their nominated delegate and one other staff member from the School.
4. Value
a. The scholarship is valued up to $3,000 and will be paid as a one-off payment.
b. Deferral or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted.
c. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
d. No other amount is payable.
5. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance and/or a complaint or concern is raised about their conduct during the program,
III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
IV. is absent at any stage during the program period without approval or reasonable excuse,
V. does not resume program/study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VI. if the student ceases to meet the eligibility requirements specified for this Scholarship.
b. Once a Scholarship has been terminated, it cannot be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
