K E Bullen Scholarship No I in Applied Mathematics
You must:
- be currently enrolled full-time in an Honours听(Applied Mathematics, Financial Mathematics and Statistics, Statistics, or Data Science) degree within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney
- have achieved proficiency in at least 18 credit points across the units MATH3961/4061,听MATH3962/4062, MATH3963/4063, MATH3968/4068, MATH3969/4069,听MATH3974/4074, MATH3979/4079, MATH3975, MATH3977/4077, MATH3978/4078, STAT3921/3922/3923/3925/3926/3888 and DATA3888 in their undergraduate degree in previous years.
K E Bullen Scholarship No II in Applied Mathematics
You must:
- be听female and currently enrolled full-time in an Honours听(Applied Mathematics, Financial Mathematics and Statistics, Statistics, or Data Science) degree within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney
- have achieved proficiency in at least 18 credit points across the units MATH3961/4061, MATH3962/4062, MATH3963/4063, MATH3968/4068, MATH3969/4069, MATH3974/4074, MATH3979/4079, MATH3975, MATH3977/4077, MATH3978/4078, STAT3921/3922/3923/3925/3926/3888 and DATA3888 in their undergraduate degree in previous years.
Background
These scholarships were established in 1982 by public subscription and later supplemented by further donations to recognise the work of Professor K.E. Bullen, who was Professor of Applied Mathematics from 1946 to 1971, and to encourage study in mathematics with particular emphasis on the promotion of excellence in applied mathematics.

2. Eligibility
a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant being currently enrolled full-time in an Honours (Applied Mathematics, Financial Mathematics and Statistics, Statistics, or Data Science) degree within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.
b. Applicants must have achieved proficiency in at least 18 credit points across the units MATH3961/4061, MATH3962/4062, MATH3963/4063, MATH3968/4068, MATH3969/4069, MATH3974/4074, MATH3979/4079, MATH3975, MATH3977/4077, MATH3978/4078, STAT3921/3922/3923/3925/3926/3888 and DATA3888 in their undergraduate degree in previous years.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of proficiency in at least 18 credit points across the units MATH3961/4061, MATH3962/4062, MATH3963/4063, MATH3968/4068, MATH3969/4069, MATH3974/4074, MATH3979/4079, MATH3975, MATH3977/4077, MATH3978/4078, STAT3921/3922/3923/3925/3926/3888 and DATA3888 in their undergraduate degree in previous years.
b. Preference will be given to students who are able to demonstrate at least one of the following:
I. hardship circumstances via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) Equity Scholarship application and/or
II. identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island person as defined in the University of Sydney's Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015.
c. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School of Mathematics and Statistics, or their nominated delegates, in consultation with the Professors of Applied Mathematics.
4. Value
a. The Scholarship is valued at $7,500 per annum tenable for one year only.
b. The Scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.
c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Head of Mathematics and Statistics and it is not transferable to another area of studies outside applied mathematics, to another University school, faculty or university without prior approval.
d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
e. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing Eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must remain enrolled full-time in their Honours degree and meet the requirements of their Honours program.
b. If recipients enrol part-time in their degree (domestic students only), they must seek prior approval to hold the scholarship on a part-time basis. The payments may be paid on a pro-rata basis.
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. commences part-time study without prior approval,
III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct,
V. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $6,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship such as the University of Sydney Honours Scholarship,
VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
