1. Background

a. Established in 2015, the Yim Family Foundation Scholarship will provide financial support for students undertaking studies in the areas of Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Bioscience and Physics in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or a New Zealand Citizen.

b. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission in full-time in an Honours program in one of the following areas: Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Bioscience and/or Physics within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

c. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need via the .

d. Subject to funding availability, the Scholarship may be awarded to currently enrolled honour鈥檚 students in the areas of Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Bioscience and/or Physics within the Faculty of Science provided they have at least one semester of their honour鈥檚 year remaining.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit,
II. evidence of financial hardship via the process, and
III. personal statement outlining the impact of the scholarship to their studies at the University of Sydney.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of the Dean of the Faculty of Science, or their nominated delegates.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at approx. $29,000 (including interest) per annum and is tenable for one year only. The exact value of the scholarship will be stipulated in the offer letter.

b. The Scholarship value will be paid in two instalments after the census date of each semester.

c. Deferral and suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Dean of Science, or their nominated delegate.

d. The Scholarship is not transferable to an Honours project in other areas outside Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Bioscience and/or Physics within the Faculty of Science, or to another University school or faculty, or university.

e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

f. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing Eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must meet the requirements of their Honours program.

b. If recipients enrol part-time in their degree, they must seek prior approval to hold the scholarship on a part-time basis. The payments may be paid on a pro-rata basis.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. transfers to an Honours project in other areas outside Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Bioscience and/or Physics within the Faculty of Science, or to other Faculties within the University,
III. commences part-time study without prior approval,
IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
VI. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $6,000 per annum or more such as the University of Sydney Honours Scholarship,
VII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VIII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.

7. Report

a. Successful recipients will be asked to provide a report at the end of their degree detailing the impact of the scholarship and their future aspirations.
