We are home to leading scholars in archaeology, classics and ancient history, gender and cultural studies, history, linguistics, philosophy, and studies in religion.

The unique research strength of the School of Humanities is that we join studies of the human past (through archaeology, the classics, ancient and more recent history) with those of how we think (philosophy), communicate (linguistics), identify (gender and cultural studies) and construct our belief systems (studies in religion). As such, our research engages some of the most challenging problems in the humanities – such as the relationship between human culture and climate change; cooperation and conflict; knowledge and society; and human bio-cultural transitions.
