COPE-A trial

A randomised controlled trial to compare the efficacy of an integrated cognitive-behavioural therapy (COPE-A) for substance use and traumatic stress among young people delivered via telehealth versus in person.

Have you experienced or witnessed a traumatic event such as a serious accident, physical or sexual assault? Do you avoid thinking, feeling or talking about it? Do you use alcohol or other drugs to help you cope?

Researchers at the Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use are conducting a trial of a psychological treatment for adolescents and young adults who are having difficulties after experiencing a traumatic event and have drunk alcohol or used drugs in the past month. The trial will compare the therapy when given in person compared to via telehealth. Participation includes up to 16 free therapy sessions with a psychologist.

This study has been approved by the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (2024/ETH01050).
