1. Background

a. Established in 2013 by a generous donation from Nomura Australia Limited, this scholarship听supports emerging leaders with a demonstrated interest in business and contributing to听their community.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be Domestic students.

b. Applicants must have successfully applied through UAC to commence an undergraduate degree administered by the University of Sydney Business School.

c. Applicants must have achieved an ATAR (or equivalent) of at least 97 in the NSW HSC or听equivalent.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit, and

II. answers provided in the common undergraduate application form, including demonstrated leadership skills, community involvement and an interest in Business.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Dean of the University of Sydney Business School, or听their nominated delegates.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $9,000 per annum and is tenable for up to three years. A听recipient can hold the scholarship for an additional year for completion of the Bachelor of听Advanced Studies or where the Bachelor of Commerce is combined with the Bachelor of Arts听or Bachelor of Science (where applicable).

b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of听each semester.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted.

d. Suspension of the scholarship is permitted for up to two semesters provided the recipient is听permitted to, or obtains approval to, suspend their degree.

e. Requests for suspension of the scholarship for more than two semesters will be considered,听and if appropriate approved, on a case-by-case basis by the University of Sydney Business听School.

f. Transfer of the Scholarship to another degree program is not permitted without the听permission of the Dean responsible for the initial program and does not involve lengthening听the tenure of this Scholarship.

g. If extenuating circumstances arise, the recipient may submit a request to decrease their听study load to a minimum full-time load per semester (18 credit points), but only with the听permission of the Faculty. The duration of the Scholarship will not be extended if a recipient听undertakes a minimum full-time load.

h. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

i. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must enrol in 24 credit points each听semester and maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 75. Undertaking a听minimum full-time load will not extend the duration of the scholarship.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to听have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

c. Recipients are required to submit a 200-word statement to the Business School听(business.scholarships@sydney.edu.au) before 15 December in each year of holding the听scholarship, summarising their involvement and impact in leadership and community spaces.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. enrols in fewer than 22 credit points in a semester without prior approval by the听Business School,

III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not听limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship听application,

V. accepts an alternative multi-year scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney,听valued at $8,000 per annum or more, or

VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University听error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under听any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University听reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be听reimbursed.

7. Other Requirements

a. Scholarship recipients may be invited to promote the program in which they are enrolled,听represent the University of Sydney at student welcome, marketing events and corporate听networking events and fulfil the on-campus functions of a Business School Student听Ambassador.
