This Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who are studying a Masters of Public Health at the University of Sydney.
1. Background
a. This Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to Aboriginal and/or TorresÌýStrait Islander students who are studying a Master of Public Health at the University ofÌýSydney.
2. Eligibility
a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer ofÌýadmission, or currently enrolled in a Master of Public Health at the University of Sydney.
b. Applicants must have completed the Graduate Diploma of Indigenous Health PromotionÌýor show evidence that they will complete this degree prior to the semester when theyÌýintend to commence an eligible degree outlined in clause 2.a.
c. Applicants must identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as per University ofÌýSydney Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy 2015.
d. Applicants who are Fee-HELP deferred students are not eligible for this scholarship.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic merit,Ìý
II. their application for admission to the Master of Public Health degree,
III. confirmation of Australian Citizenship and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait IslanderÌýidentity,
IV. a cover letter outlining the why you should be awarded this scholarship, your workÌýexperience, your potential relative to opportunity, and your commitment to publicÌýhealth through study, practice, work or internship, and
V. a curriculum vitae.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School of the School of Public Health, orÌýtheir nominated delegate(s).Ìý
4. Value
a. The scholarship is valued at $7,500 AUD and covers one full-time semester of study. TheÌýscholarships applies to the same semester in which the student submitted their scholarshipÌýapplication.
b. Where the recipient is studying part-time, the amount awarded for the relevant semesterÌýwill be 50% of the full-time rate and the Scholarship will be tenable for one semester.
c. The Scholarship value will be paid directly towards the student’s tuition fees of theÌýapplicable semester.
d. If the student’s tuition fees are less than the scholarship value for the relevant semester, theÌýscholarship value will be equal to the student’s tuition fee.Ìý
e. Deferral or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted. The Scholarship cannot beÌýtransferred to another University school or Faculty.
f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
g. No other amount is payable.
5. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws, suspends or fails to enrol in their course,
II. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,Ìý
III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but notÌýlimited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their ScholarshipÌýapplication,Ìý
IV. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued atÌý$8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship, or
V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to UniversityÌýerror.Ìý
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminatedÌýunder any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the UniversityÌýreserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient beÌýreimbursed.Ìý
