You must:
1. Background
a. This Scholarship was established in 2016 to encourage and support students from the ruralÌýor regional Australia to undertake postgraduate nursing education at The University ofÌýSydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery (Sydney Nursing School).
b. This Scholarship has been donated by the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation.
2. Eligibility
a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer ofÌýadmission or being currently enrolled in the first year of either of the below degrees at theÌýSydney Nursing School.
I. Master of Nursing (graduate entry), orÌý
II. Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner)
b. Applicants must enrol in a minimum of 12 credit points in their first semester of an eligibleÌýdegree.
c. Applicants must be Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents.
d. Applicants must be from an area of Australia that is not the Greater Sydney (Greater CapitalÌýCity Statistical Area) classified by the Australian Bureau of Statistics prior to commencingÌýenrolment in their eligible degree.Ìý
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic merit,
II. a personal statement, andÌý
III. a curriculum vitae.
b. Shortlisted applicants will need to attend an interview (face to face or online) with theÌýselection committee.
c. The selection committee will consist of the:
I. Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Nursing School or their nominated delegate,
II. At least one representative of the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation,Ìý
III. Director Academic Education,
IV. Postgraduate Program Director,
V. School Manager,
VI. Director of Academic Career Development, and
VII. Administration Officer.
4. Value
a. The total value of the scholarship for a recipients enrolled full-time in the Master of NursingÌý(graduate degree) will be $21,625. This will be split into the following benefits:
I. a one-off payment of $500 in the first semester of their award, and
II. $220.05 per credit point per semester towards their tuition fees for four (4) semesters.ÌýAny remaining funds for each relevant semester will be dispersed to the student as aÌýcash payment.
b. The total value of the scholarship for a recipient enrolled full-time in the Master of NursingÌý(Nurse Practitioner) degree will be $21,625. This will be split into the following benefits:
I. a one-off payment of $500 in the first semester of their award, and
II. $293.40 per credit point per semester towards their tuition fees for four (4) semesters.ÌýAny remaining funds for each relevant semester will be dispersed to the student as aÌýcash payment.
c. Where a recipient has been approved to study part-time:
I. the amount awarded for each relevant semester will be the pro rata value of the full-time rate, and
II. the duration of the scholarship will be extended to match the equivalent full-timeÌýduration of the program.
d. All scholarship payments will be paid after the relevant census date of each semester.
e. Recipients of this Scholarship who are enrolled in a combined degree will only receive tuitionÌýfee coverage for their eligible degree in Nursing.
f. Deferral and suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission ofÌýthe Director Academic Education.
g. The scholarship is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.Ìý
h. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
i. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must:
I. maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester, and
II. remain enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit points each semester in their eligibleÌýcourse.
b. The recipient may request to study less than 12 credit points in a semester where they canÌýdemonstrate a medical condition or other significant hardship that has impacted their abilityÌýto successfully undertake the required workload. Requests must be approved by theÌýDirector Academic Education prior to the commencement of the reduced workload.
c. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required toÌýhave achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.Ìý
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. enrols in less than 12 credit points in a semester without prior approval from theÌýDirector Academic Education,
III. undertakes a leave of absence without prior approval from the Director AcademicÌýEducation,
IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,Ìý
V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but notÌýlimited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their ScholarshipÌýapplication,Ìý
VI. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued atÌý$8,000 per annum or more for a full-time recipient or $4,000 per annum or more for aÌýpart-time recipient, for the same purpose as this Scholarship, or
VII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to UniversityÌýerror.Ìý
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminatedÌýunder any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the UniversityÌýreserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient beÌýreimbursed.Ìý
7. Other Requirements
a. Recipients of the scholarship are required to:
I. attend annual School Scholarship and prize events during the tenure of their scholarship,
II. contribute to communications and events to update the Susan and Isaac WakilÌýFoundation on their progress,
III. actively participate in the Susan Wakil Scholars Academy, and
IV. meet with the Director Academic Education or the designated academic once eachÌýsemester during the tenure of this scholarship to discuss their academic progression.
